Revisionist History

I get the distinct impression that Australian Idol is now being edited by Keith Windschuttle, as the opening sequence from tonight's episode featured a moving montage of all the previous winners.... except Casey Donovan. There were even a couple of superfluous shots of Anthony Callea's teeth just to try and trick us in to thinking he won that year.

Thankfully, Ricki-Lee is on board as a 'mentor' to this year's contestants, and she was there to soothingly dance us all through any concerns we might have.

She teaches the young Palestinian-scarf wearing hopefuls that perhaps they too could one day be an ex-Young Diva given a false sense of legitimacy by the very show that brought her in to existence. Some sage advice offered in tonights' episode: “You need to show the judges: 1. How great a singer you are, and 2. That you can be the Australian Idol".

I have learned a lot from Idol over the years: that the only good singers in this country are racials and that the really good ones are hot racials. I look forward to growing in leaps and bounds with the help of Ricki-Lee's invaluable guidance.

I don't really like this off-puttingly sarcastic post, especially since I actually quite like Ricki-Lee. But deleting it now would be revisionist history.

As supplementary reading material to this lol-post, I recommend Ricki-Lee's interview in (often over-looked) Sydney 'pop'-focused street-press Pop Republic.
