But I don't quite know how to mount an argument against the second piece without writing something equally as irritating.

i am so glad you've highlighted this sophie. i have so many problems with this hipster article. where to start?
IN NO ORDER:
1/what was the freakin point of this article? 1.1/how on earth did this get printed as a feature/opinion piece in the SMH?
2/the author is nearing 40 but tries at the end to suggest that perhaps she is a hipster.
3/hipsters aren't obsessed with owning real estate - that's the domain of yuppies in the same age bracket as the author.
4/the random leaps in logic are astounding: "Hipsters are hard to describe because they are so full of contradictions. But like a toupee or AIDS-related wasting, you know it when you see it." HUH?? WHA???]
6/the article is a thinly veiled attempt to gloat about being cool and hanging out in Williamsburg. Wow. Williamsburg is no longer the epicentre of hipsteville. They've moved further into Brooklyn, to cheaper housing.
HIPSTERS LOVE QUEUING SO MUCH. God, And they're always like "I HATE queuing HEAPS." but then you just know they only found out about queuing after reading an article about how people always queue in Brooklyn on their expensive laptops. Oh shit, I'm writing this from a queue right now.
Wow. Pryor's rant smells like douche. The self-indulgence hits you like a dump truck full of retard sauce. If you're not too tired from riding your old Malvern Star along Bourke Street (WTF?)and want a more thought-provoking / insightful look at the hipster phenomenon, I recommend these articles:
She wrote this article with a stack of New Yorker's on the left side of her desk and a pile of random cutout phrases that Nick Hornby wrote in the other.
Also, heaps cultural cringey Australian take with the Williamsburg/Surry Hills dichotomy.

Hey guys.
I found a really good article on hipsters. You should all read it and talk about it earnestly.
