Paul Newman

When I first learnt Paul Newman was an actor I was shocked. I had always assumed he was a happy Italian salad-dressing maker who loved Balsamic vinegar. My boyfriend at the time (mind you, this is some time ago) explained that he was not only wonderfully creative with food stuffs, but an Oscar award winning actor too. Like what I was saying about this guy, some people are just born with that somethin-somethin.

I wasn't going to post this as Movestill isn't usually the platform for serious posts and remembrances, but in all seriousness, this guy was legendary.

After my supermarket American history lesson I rented some of his most classic films, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Colour of Money (for which he won an Oscar) and Cool Hand Luke. It was the best $10 odd bucks I'd spent at the video store in as long as I could remember.

Newman died of cancer on Friday, aged 83. This weekend I'm planning another Newman-night, and forget popcorn and softdrink, i'll be serving salads.

"The embarrassing thing is that the salad dressing is out grossing my films" (Newman)

It is good dressing.
